Jan Paweł II odpoczywał w naszym regionie. Niedaleko Tarnówki i Jastrowia (powiat złotowski) powstał pierwszy na świecie pomnik Papieża Polaka, który fakt ten upamiętnił. Był rok 1947. Uczniowie Państwowego Liceum Rolniczego w Złotowie przystępowali do egzaminów maturalnych. Dziś powiedzielibyśmy, że robili pierwszy krok w dorosłe życie. W tej niewielkiej grupie znalazł się m.in. chłopak, który z pewnością egzamin dojrzałości miał już dawno za sobą. Nie zaliczył go jednak w budynku jakiejkolwiek polskiej uczelni.
